What does possum removal in Victoria involve?

Brushtail possums get into roofs through lifted tiles, perished capping, rotten timber and open eaves. A lawful job lets the possum leave by itself through a one way door, then closes the opening it used, so the roof is shut behind it.
In Victoria both common possums are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975. A brushtail living in a building may be caged, but it has to be released on the same property, within 50 metres of where it was caught, after sunset that day. Moving it somewhere else is not allowed, and ringtails cannot be trapped without state authority.
Because relocation is not allowed, the repair matters more than the removal. That is why our jobs include the handyman work on the roof, not just the door.
